Agree with all of your HIMSS observations. Given the cards they were dealt (ignoring their strong-arming tactics with vendors and less than transparent comms about attendance, etc) I’d say they did a great job. On the downside attendance was down, obviously. On the upside, attendance was down, you didn’t have to swim upstream everywhere you went, nor stand in lines at every turn. Our folks and many others I spoke with said the meetings/conversations were actually much better because 1) they could speak to the “right” people and 2) everyone wasn’t double booked and racing to the next things so they could actually engage in real discussions. Before we hear the headlines of how sick people are after the conference let’s remember that after a typical HIMSS many of us return with the cruds anyway because of the close talking and circulated air. Hoping this bodes well for getting back to “normal” for ’22. I just hope HIMSS can finally find a badge printing vendor who can solve the riddle of “how can we make the first name BIG on the badge” so I don’t have to bury my head in someone’s chest to read it.
