US government releases official guidelines for smart guns
The Department of Justice releases voluntary guidance for firearms manufacturers outlining the kinds of “smart gun” safety technology it would like to see in pistols. While adopting the recommendations is optional, DOJ reports that the features will be part of the baseline specifications for law enforcement service pistols.

Just because a political appointee says something political and attaches the word “health” to it doesn’t make it a legitimate health issue.
The only way it’s a health issue is if you talk about the underlying causes of social violence, and even that’s a stretch. Why don’t we focus on broken homes, poor education, and lack of economic opportunity rather than inanimate objects? Oh, right, because that would be hard, and going after firearms makes people feel good while doing nothing to solve the issue.
