Listening: Foo Fighters, of which I’m far from a fan, but I’m obsessed with videos of Dave Grohl (also not a fan) bringing audience members up to play. Kiss Guy and Richard the Drummer will give rock star wannabes goose bumps. I’m also not a fan of sports, but I’m intrigued by YouTube videos and livestreams of the sports-adjacent antics of the Savannah Bananas

  1. Also a lukewarm-at-best fan of Foo Fighters, but for a real tear jerker, watch the video or Taylor Hawkins’ (RIP) kid playing “My Hero” on drums at the tribute concert.

    • Thanks, that was good. Shane Hawkins thrashes the drums hard like his dad did, except instead of smiling, he looks like he is painfully focused on hitting hard as a teen who is developing his own style.

  2. Dave Grohl is a rock god in my book, but I get how fathering a child outside your immediate family and, well … their music might not be to everyone’s taste. I would, however, recommend the video of the Rockin 1000 (residents of Cesena, Italy trying to lure the Foos there to do a show) covering Learn to Fly. Tons of heart.

    • Thanks for mentioning the Rockin’ 1000. It’s a good YouTube video and so was another where Grohl gets choked up watching it during an interview, basically telling the interviewer that it amazes him that a song he/they scribbled on a napkin or something could resonate around the world. It’s good to be (Rock) King.
