Has cronyism ever actually worked in the history of governments? Does anyone actually think “oh, this time appointing personal friends of the president will be different”? This is infuriating.
Wording it as “personal physician” makes it sound like Trump just appointed his PCP, but leaves out the years of service Jackson has given to the White House and Navy.
“Jackson was appointed as the lead White House doctor by Obama in July 2013. He had previously served in the White House Medical Unit under Obama and George W. Bush.”

I know what his experience is, but I still don’t think that makes him particularly qualified to run the VA. This really feels like a choice of proximity.
“Choice of proximity” is very different than “personal friend of the president.”
Maybe he isn’t qualified to lead the VA, but he is a military physician who has been deployed in Iraq.
Well at least we know now the mystery of how Trump is somehow taller than President Obama despite being demonstrably shorter, and one pound under the threshold for obesity.
With clearly exception (usually dual MDs / MBA), it’s well known that most physicians struggle to manage the business side of private practices. How does medical school or distinguished military service prepare one for directing and managing the second largest organization / bureaucracy in the country?
As part of the Rear Admiral’s credentials, does it matter that he doctored (pun intended) Trump’s BMI (height / weight) to avoid labeling him “obese”, touts the president’s exceptional health knowing his unhealthy diet and sleep habits, and that he was incapable of walking across a parking lot with all other international leaders at summit, requiring a golf cart?
Do people supporting the appointment question why he misspelled his own name on President Trump’s physical signed “Ronnie”, not Ronny, and led with “Dr.” rather than normal title followed by medical degree. Either he can’t spell his own name or someone else signed it. At least it’s good Dr. Bornstein didn’t get the post.
