RE: Epic’s pseudo-interoperability — Is it really news that Epic is allowing patients let other registered users see their chart? Don’t most portals allow users to grant family members access to their charts? And this “new” progress note ability. Isn’t this really just Epic spin on blue button tech that’s been out there for years? At least worldwide is in quotes. From a tech perspective, this is an #epicfail.
Leave it to Epic to declare interoperability solved worldwide. Cool idea, but let’s not minimize what it’ll take to truly address interoperability.
Having worked with Epic at various sites for years, I wish they’d recognize that where they’re struggling most with interoperability is in dealing with themselves and each other. They used to handle integration very well, but it’s like pulling teeth the past 3-4 years to get someone to own anything that involves more than one of their applications.
