  1. Haven’t seen anything posted yet about the Epic UMass shortfall…

    FROM POLITICO THIS AM:
UMass Memorial Health Care says its $700 million EHR implementation helped lead to its $31 million budget shortfall in 2016.

“UMass Memorial’s system-wide switch to an Epic Systems network contributed to $26.1 million in additional expenses in fiscal 2016. The rollout has cost the system a total of about $64 million so far, according to the earnings report. The rollout has added $23.3 million in labor expenses, $23.9 million in consulting fees and $14.2 million in implementation fees.”

  2. Halamka drank the Koolaid.
Somehow he thinks MACRA MIPS reversed the burden on providers. Not sure what MACRA he is talking about but for the vast majority of MDs
this 2400 page legislation is a nightmare and did nothing to improve care, reduce burden and worse added another clinical practice improvement module.
There is a one year beat with a belt before the 2018 and beyond beat with the wrench. But I can tell you that most providers are fed up with the US gov interference and hyper regulatory legislation they have piled on front line MDs.
