Why EHRs are not (yet) disruptive

According to the Clayton Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation, EHRs aren’t disruptive because they were designed to simply replace paper and users aren’t motivated to change their business model.

  1. EHRs are designed as billing machines rather than care record systems. The patient and the care of the patient has bee woefully neglected. It has nothing to do with paper. It EHRs replaced paper, they would be great. What did CPOE replace, by the way?
