President Obama has accepted the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, according to White House officials. Her five-year tenure was marred by political acrimony over the flawed rollout of the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare. gov, a source of embarrassment for the Obama administration.

The President will on Friday nominate Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who has been director of the Office of Management and Budget for one year, to replace Sebelius. She was previously president of the Walmart Foundation, worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,  and held several positions in the Clinton White House.

  1. I understand it is a political job but there is no candidate for this position with some healthcare, provider or payer, experience to lead in this role?? The best we can do is someone who has run a foundation??? Sad!!

  2. I rued the appointment of Sebelius from the day she was confirmed. And it doesn’t look like things are going to get any better. What ‘industry’ would promote a person with one year tenure, who learned management within companies not connected with the major problems that need to be addressed, in a ‘company’ outside their area of expertise, to the position of highest responsibility in the ‘company’? Health and Human Services.

  3. aw c’mon, fully qualified people with the responsibility of representing professional and competent behavior (on broadcast media during congressional hearings) while organizing national healthcare? It may seem easy to think they’re “A dime a dozen”, but careful consideration might expose that satisfying everyone would result in the elimination of dimes over the promotion of individuals.

Unless it’s me – because I’m not a narcissist, am incorruptible, and am universally appealing; just ask my mom. Or to put another way: perhaps a ruing sadness over monies spent for contrived newness could be worse, if anyone took my mom seriously.

  4. Get Real People. The guy in the oval office never ran so much as 3rd shift at Waffle House and he’s got the keys to the kingdom. You expect he’s going after competent folks for lower positions? If you want to be upset with inexperienced nimrods, focus on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
