Surprised that this did not make it to your Monday News. Hospitals associated with SSM Health were fined by Wisconsin for not offering emergency contraceptive health and being non-compliant with the law. That, and the fact that religious organizations like SSM are creating monopolies through acquisitions can mean that women in many areas of the country may not have access to safe contraception and abortion. This will only get exacerbated with the GOP’s war on Planned Parenthood.
Now, I have no problem at all with places like SSM, Mercy, Providence, CHI etc. following their religious convictions – as long as it does not happen on tax-payer’s dime. Go ahead and get rid of “charitable organization” moniker, ask for parishioners to make up for the financial void and deny safe choices to women to your heart’s content.
It’s newsworthy, but not health IT or anything to do with medical records.
