Thanks to all for the kind words.
I’m not really as irreverent as I sound – OK maybe I am after all- but have found that political correctness tends to get people in trouble. I deal a lot with the “big kahunas” who run the major companies and have been told by them that they like hearing how it really is vs. hearing what others think they want to hear- even if the message isn’t all sunshine and roses. Of course the length of my tenure in a place like GE would probably be measured in milliseconds but thankfully- for both of us- I don’t plan on applying there any time soon.
I can be contacted via phone at (407) 359-6575 or via e-mail at pacsman@ix.netcom.com. Feel free to call to discuss your project, concerns or anything else. The first hour is always free…and even longer if I like ya.
Lastly, I am in the process of updating my website as we speak but if you want to learn more about what we do feel free to visit the website at www.pacsman.com.

Loved the interview! Having supplied the answers for many RFPs over the years beginning with AT&T 's CommView solution sold by Philips, I know that RFPs are only a small factor in the final PACS decision. Politics is the driving force in vendor selection at most institutions! It shouldn't be that way but factually most decisions come from the top, and few will ever try to overide that decision.

For anyone reading this column, superb advice. Truer words have never been spoken about acquiring a PACS.

This was a great article Mike. I have been in IT for 15 years, worked as a PACS Administrator for the last 4 years and have followed you for quite some time. I think the next time we are evaluating our contract and/or vendor we will have to look you up. I will be sharing this article with our CIO (my boss). How do we get ahold of you?

I love this interview! Having implemented (successfully) a PACS system at a large, multi-facility hospital in 2003, I agree with everything Mike has to say. I also really appreciate his irreverent attitude! I couldn't argee with him more about the contracting process and also needing the project to be a combination of IT and Radiology. THat's the only reason we succeeded.

Thanks for this interview!
