Lisa R... I guess you're right, if you are content with where you are in your field and career, then it probably isn't worth it, but I think most people look at these higher ed degrees so they can move into that corner office, or make six figures, or just to learn more and be an expert in their field. If they didn't want something more from their career than I don't think they would be comparing these schools, because most Masters degrees are going to set you back just as much, if not more...

Lisa-

In terms of the comparative "value", UIC's tuition is right on par with it's counterparts. However, you hint at a larger question, "Is a Master's degree in Health Informatics worth it?" In many cases, a Master’s degree in Health Informatics, along with several years of related experience, should result in a six-figure salary. Besides the corner office, some people pursue their Master's degree for the satisfaction of accomplishment and others want the credibility and respect that an advanced degree garners. For you Lisa R., what is it?

The UIC program costs about $30,000. If you are already mid-career and not particulary interested in the corner office, is it really worth it?

I'm starting Northwestern's online MMI program later this month after looking into both Northwestern and UIC. The curricula and tuition were both very similar. I ultimately went with NU, but I don't think you can go wrong with either program. So look at both before choosing!

Hey Nancy Nurse, UIC actually has a great online dual/joint degree program between the Health Informatics program and the UIC College of Nursing. It will get you 2 Master’s degrees from 2 of the best accredited programs in the field. The Masters in Nursing Administration degree and Master’s in Health Informatics are both nationally respected programs. If you want more information you can visit www.healthinformatics.uic.edu to contact the school.
