I give the flashing sponsor ads the thumbs down. I do the same thing that someone mentioned above, and cover up the side of the screen that’s flashing. It’s distracting when trying to read.

Layoffs – I’d like to keep seeing them too. As someone who was just recently job hunting (after a layoff), it was good to see which places to stay away from. I didn’t waste my time applying to anyone who was laying off folks.

I would like to keep seeing the layoffs. I have passed along names of companies that have been laying off people to friends in HR. A couple of them are interested in replacing dead weight with people who have experience. It at least gives the laid off a chance to generate some buzz. If you HR department is not sifting through the aftermath of the layoffs, you could be missing picking up some good people.

I am getting hounded by vendors pushing stuff. I at least try to get a free meal out of it when i can. that normally makes me feel better.

RE: Layoffs. It’s depressing to read, but I think it’s an important part of our (healthcare) business to know. As a healthcare consultant, hospital layoffs can either be an opportunity for me or a sign o’ the times. I read about a potential client’s layoffs and was able to reach out to my contact there, who was surprised I’d heard. I wouldn’t have heard if not for this column.

And after all, job openings are reported, too.
