"President-elect Obama should consider one single change that would do more to reshape medicine into an information industry than anything else: put a stop to all the ridiculous documentation requirements for getting providers paid, many of them imposed by Uncle Sam himself through his big payors like Medicare." Imagine how good EMRs would be if all the crap involving billing and malpractice defense could be eliminated and systems redesigned from scratch for the patient’s benefit, not that of the government and the insurance companies.

Brilliance- Mr. H!

What's up with everyone drooling on temselves over Epic? I want to hear from others in MY boat where Epic has been the biggest-mistake-of-a-shove-it-down--your-throat system (and you'd better like it) I've ever heard of. Crappy documentation resulting in over $50,000 in lost charges per month for the ED- and left without being seen rates skyrocketed along with patient satisfatcion scores going into the toilet. Lawyers are having a field day with our charts. Patient care is in the toilet as well. Epic is NOT user friendly in emergency medicine- the docs spend more time in front of the computer than taking care of patients.

Enough already, and before anyone gets all worked- be sure to wipe the kool-aid moustache off before responding.

Thanks for the video link to Jonathan Bush. He wasn't necessarily what I expected based on the hype, but to his credit he does not lack any passion for Athena's business model.

"Frustrating: I bought those squiggly, energy-efficient Sylvania bulbs from Sam’s that say on the box they’ll last seven years. So far in one bathroom, four of six have burned out in just a handful of months. Ripoff?"

Hey...read the fine print...the label says 7 years when used an average of 2 hrs per day! Your spending too much time in the Loo!

[From Mr. HIStalk] Hey, where else would I be willing to read War and Peace in just a few "sittings?"

Regarding Ivo Nelson and Dana Sellers - Maybe Ivo and Dana plan to re-emerge as a new healthcare IT consulting venture. This could explain why I received an e-mailed Christmas card from Ivo, showing a picture of his re-united family. He may be reaching out to former Healthlinkers in case something materializes that requires a pool of talent to fulfill. Of the 600+ Healthlinkers at the time of the merger, only 100 or less remain with IBM today.
