Re: Candidates' positions on HIT
Don't hold your breath folks.
Was at a recent debate at Harvard, each candidate represented by their chief health policy/economic adviser. Both stated that the current financial crisis is the number one priority and all resources going towards that. They were not explicit, but strongly implied such so don't expect much in the first year or two.

RE: CIO's and quality. The quote from the article is "When asked how the importance of their software quality is perceived within the business, more than 40% of CIOs admitted "not at all" or "as a nice to have". " That's not the same as asking the CIO's how important THEY perceive software quality to be. My guess is that it was a poorly worded question, which as you note is impossible to know for sure since they didn't provide the actual survey.

The HIMSS Virginia Chapter is having it's annual conference in Williamsburg, VA next week, and has secured two physician keynote speakers, including a congressman from Texas, who will talk about each candidate's respective positions on healthcare and healthcare IT. The Commonwealth of Virginia's Secretary of Technology will also speak at the conference. See announcement below.

“The keynote speakers are expected to discuss how legislative initiatives can influence the growth, development and adoption of information technology in healthcare”, says Konschak. “Additionally, attendees will want to learn more about Virginia’s potential to become a health IT leader in the nation and how the industry can work with government to advance health IT issues.”, says current Virginia HIMSS President Mike Sanders.
