"Despite the complex scope of the initiative, the VA is proceeding with it without a comprehensive project management plan and validated cost estimates to coordinate and guide the effort and has yet to establish a governance structure and permanently hire managers who have day-to-day oversight for it, "....

" VA reported spending almost $600 million for these eight projects. ..

"In April 2008, VA provided an $11 billion cost estimate for completion of HealtheVet, GAO said. But it has not yet independently validated this estimate, which is essential to improve the accuracy of cost, schedule, and performance management, Melvin said

University of Illinois, Chicago just sent out the winner of their Staffing and Scheduling RFP... (drumroll) AtStaff has vanquished 5 other vendors and was selected for their" event based staffing system" that enabled UIC to automate their acuity system and meet the Illinois staffing law. Does anyone know what "event based staffing system" means?

I was an executive in a company (HIT) that found out a staff member for one of the company's clients was bad mouthing the company on a public blog. The staff member was upset because he felt his requests for changes in the software (code changes not configuration) were not being delivered as quickly as he wanted. Regardless of what HE wanted -- the client wasn't asking for the changes -- just this staff member..

In any case our CEO found the blog, went ballistic, called the client and threatened to sue them and their employee if the blog comments weren't taken down.

Points to consider

1. The staff member was acting on his own in posting to the blog although he told everyone on the blog who he was and where he worked -- may be not so bright.

2. The staff member was asking for things that his employeer didn't see as necessary.

3. The client did not want to get into a peeing match with their vendor and told the staff member to retract or leave (which he quickly did).

4. The vendor wasn't about to stand still while someone trashed the product because he was ticked off no one (including his employer) cared about what he wanted (that includes other staff members).

5. The vendor went WAY overboard threatening to sue everyone involved. Maybe a little side conversation would have been best.

6. Some people are just jerks -- and when that is the case -- fire them (like google does).

Secret of the Blue Singrays:
The Blue Stingrays were a late 1990s rock band that played surf rock, incorporating some country and western elements, with an overall Hawaiian atmosphere. The band was composed of the members of The Heartbreakers, Tom Petty's backup band, who took a short break from their work with Petty to record one album, Surf-N-Burn.
