re:Epic->.NET: not for sure, but i would look to see what is different about the first choice between late 2007 and early 2009. i will give you a hint, it rhymes with "oh-no-racle".

Regarding KLAS and incenting customers to give glowing reports...
You are correct! We have been exposed. The incentive that our company uses; and it works really, really well, is excellent support and rock solid solutions. Guilty as charged.

Before you completely write off KLAS and it's value as a reference site, consider how hard it is for vendor's to play this system. You have to keep up a volume of references coming from your sites constantly - we have 900 hospitals and still occasionally drop off the maximum confidence level. You cannot "pick and choose" who submits a reference and keep this volume up, you have to encourage all customers delighted or not so much to fill in a review. We also use it as third party verification of where we might be going wrong. There's plenty of anecdotal stuff in there - even if you have 40 happy customers and 1 unhappy, the negative still gets shown as they display a selection of positive and negative quotes.

Of course vendors with much larger revenue streams than ours may just employ/incent a bunch of people to do just that but certainly in our space when I look at the rankings of our competitors it pretty much reflects what we see and hear day to day.

Of course we're number one so are more likely to defend it but I honestly think it's pretty accurate.

Ok, so I got excited when I read that Epic switched to .Net. I'm a fan. I'm curious to know what their reasons are. Its one thing to choose a platform after doing some research, but to announce one decision and then to switch it later leads me to believe that someone did a bit more research and found something important enough to suggest a switch.
