The end of HIMSS and I am still here. If you want to network, the big wigs have gone home. If you want to pick up toys, the schleps left behind probably will give them out so they don’t have to bring them back.

Cool toys for your 1.5 year old that you have to bring back to be a great dad or mom; Apptis has lighty bouncy balls, Unotron has little rubber ducky’s for the bathtub, Yo Yo’s at the University of Maryland booth (just planning for juniors graduate work), Beachballs at SCC Soft Computer, and Clinicomp has little beanie frogs. One vendor is giving away full sized stuffed dogs, but I didn’t want to give them my badge, card, two pages of info and first born for the stuffed animal. Xerox has wizard hats. Vendors that just have pens need some serious help with marketing ideas. Don’t bring home the useless cushy doctor, laptop, or fruit as your child will take a bite out of it leaving you to wonder where the other parts are. Hand Sanitizer will get you points with the wife.

Seen around the floor; On Base has beer, Vastech has margaritas, and one vendor has fruit you can’t eat. Don’t go down Google’s isle as you won’t be able to get through the mass of people surrounding them. Kudos to vendors with coffee! AtStaff had coffee and asked only that you listen to their speil. They have some predictive modeling for staffing and an acuity methodology which seems more in line for a nursing show... not bad for a Starbucks with cream and sugar. They are also industry friendly and were nice enough to share with other vendors.

Best and Worst... What sucked, tired technology, mean vendors, pushy vendors, and pens. Best session: Any session that talked about culture change, policy change and THEN the adoption of technology. Worst session: Any session that made it seem like those were irrelevant as long as you used technology. Presenters seem to be sticking to CE and not talking about individual vendors, although the questions from the audience almost require them to divulge their partner. Best reception: Histalk. Worst reception: Microsoft. Mr. Histalk already mentioned the best and worst booths, but any booth with coffee is my favorite!

Oh, and when I mentioned to Cerner (who had no giveaway) that they weren’t going to be here next year, the girl said “Well that certainly got around fast!” Here is to Mr. Histalk for keeping us informed and ahead of the Vendor games! (even though I am still here)
